2023 Budget : MDAs Defend Budget Proposal Before Standing Committees

In continuation of the proposed 2023 budget defense, at Kano state house of assembly, various ministries and departments keep trooping, to engage in bilateral discussions with house standing committees.

Some of the ministries include Kano State Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Commerce, Kano state Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), among others.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the defence, Kano state commissioner for higher education Dr.Mariya Mahmud Bunkure, said Kano state government was committed to uplifting education to international standards.

According to her, the state has released over 800 million naira for internal bursary allowances to indigenous students across the five emirate councils, as well as three hundred million naira, for payment of registration fees for Kano students at Cyprus university.

She noted that, 27% of the total budget was set aside for education, where over one billion naira in the 2023 proposed budget, would be used to pay for students scholarship and allowances across institutions of higher learning.

Dr. Mariya pointed out that, College of Education Dambatta would be upgraded from a monotechnic to polytechnic.

Also speaking, Kano state commissioner of Agriculture, Dr. Yusuf Jibrin Rurum highlighted that, if passed the 2023 financial year would prioritize food sufficiency, animal production, fertilizer acquisition to farmers,and youths empowerment.

He noted that, the ministry would also strengthen the existing cordial relationship with development partners, to improve productivity, and ensure farmers receive all the necessary assistance.

Also speaking , the managing director, Kano state agricultural supply company limited (KASCO), Alhaji Bala Inuwa pointed out that the company would prioritize completion of projects, such as installation of brand new equipment, and procurement of trucks for transportation of goods and services, within and outside the state.

He maintained that production turn over has improved this year , saying that the company has procured equipment from Netherlands for production of animal and chicken feeds.

On his part, chairman house standing committee on agriculture, Alhaji Salisu Maje Ahmed Gwangwazo explained that, the bilateral discussions have yielded positive results.

He stressed that, careful scrutiny revealed that the Kano state ministry of Agriculture, has implemented a high percentage of its 2022 budget.adding that the 2023 proposed budget, contains programs that would boost the economy in terms of revenue generation.

Other ministries and departments that defended their budgets include, Ministry of Commerce and Kano State Consumer Protection Council, among others.
