United Nations Commends Nigeria’s Global Peace Efforts

United Nations-UN has commended Nigeria’s effort in global peace efforts.

Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Mrs Amina Mohammed stated this while on a courtesy visit to the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre Jaji, Kaduna State.

Mrs. Amina Mohammed expressed satisfaction with Nigeria’s effort at curtailing internal security challenges within the available resources at its disposal.

She explained that Nigeria’s security is trans-border in nature which requires all hands to be on deck towards addressing the menace.

The Deputy-Secretary General stressed the need for more investment in human capital development as a means to addressing the root causes of conflict in any society.

Mrs Amina Mohammed expressed delight over the Centre’s partnership with International donors which according to her, enhances development where human rights are attained.

Earlier, Commandant of the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Major General Auwal Jibril Fagge said the centre would leverage on the UN Deputy Secretary-General’s visit in ensuring further partnerships with relevant bodies.

He said the centre would also lay more emphasis on improved training and educating peace-keepers on gender mainstreaming, sexual exploitation among others, which is in line with the centre’s mandate.

Major General Fagge solicited for more collaboration with the UN in the areas of infrastructural development, training sponsorship, ICT, among others with a view to upscaling the centre’s productivity in the discharge of its mandate.

Highlight of the visit was a guided tour of facilities and planting of a tree at the centre by the Deputy Secretary General.
