KNSG To Utilize Scientific Innovations For Economic Upliftment – Commissioner

Kano State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Alhaji Idris Garba Anguwar Rimi, has reiterated the state government’s dedication to uplifting the economy and reducing unemployment, through scientific and technological innovations.

The commissioner made the indication, shortly after defending the ministry’s 2023 proposed budget, held at Kano State House of Assembly .

According to him, the ministry’s 2023 budget would focus more attention on developing talented and gifted students, such as the teenager who built a tricycle, and the girl from Wudil local government area, who could solve mathematics within few seconds.

In a similar development, the Vice Chancellor Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil Professor Shehu Alhaji Musa said the institution is among twenty five universities, with full accreditation of courses in the country.

He pointed out that, if passed the 2023 budget of the university would pave way for the establishment, of a College of Health Science and University Teaching Hospital at Wudil.

In his remarks, Vice Chancellor, Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, said the National Universities Commission has approved thirteen additional undergraduate courses, and commencement of forty five post graduate courses, in the university.

He noted that, during bilateral discussions between management of the university and the committee members, extensive discussions were held, on the need to increase the overhead cost, due to the expansion of the university in all dimensions.

On the issue of scholarship opportunities, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Scholarship Board , Alhaji Mudan Umar Bebeji said, the board would sponsor indigenous students, in private and government owned universities within the country to save cost.

He noted that, the 2023 proposed budget was tagged at 3.5 billion naira as capital expenditure, 28 million naira as over head while personnel cost stood at 30 million naira.

Other ministries and departments that have so far defended their budgets include, Sa’adatu Rimi college of education,SUBEB, ministry for local governments and chieftancy affairs,ministry of finance among others.
