Donations : Jigawa Generates Over N1bn For Flood Victims

Philanthropist and Non governmental Organisations has raised over 1 Billion naira for Jigawa state flood victims.

Speaking during the fund raising ceremony held at Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall Dutse, the state capital, Chairman of the Committee on flood disaster, funding raising and palliatives distribution, Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu said, over one 130 people died as a result of the disaster.

According to him, the committee noted that the flood disaster is first of its kind in history of the state.

He further explained that the disaster has destroyed houses, farmlands, public buildings, roads, bridges, health centers and schools.

In his speech, Governor Badaru Abubakar pointed out that over seventy six thousand people were made homeless as a result of heavy downpour, river flooding and building collapse.

He said that the disaster is a threat to food security in the country considering the contributions of Jigawa in agricultural production.

Badaru added that, a team of flood scientist from the Netherlands was in the state to find a lasting solution to the annual disaster.

Also speaking, the state Deputy Governor Mallam Umar Namadi reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensure equal distribution of the donation to the affected victims. 

Radio Nigeria reports that Alhaji Aminu Dantata and Alhaji Abdulsamad Isiaka Rabiu donated 200 Million naira each, Governor Badaru Abubakar donated 25 Million while the state Deputy Governor Mallam Umar Namadi donated 5 million naira.

The Emirs of Hadejia, Dutse, Ringim, Kazaure and Gumel also donated 1Million naira each.
