KNHA Committed To Sustainable Development Of Kano -Lawmaker

Kano state House of Assembly has reaffirmed it’s dedication to the swift passage of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, kumbotso bill.

Chairman, House standing committee on higher education, Alhaji Ali Isah Shanono, made the indication during a meeting on the upgrade of Sa’adatu Rimi college of education to a university of education, held in Kano.

According to him, the purpose of the deliberations, was to critically look at the bill with the main objective of upgrading the status of the college to a university of education.

Alhaji Ali’s Isah Shonono explained that, as representatives of the people, KNHA is committed to supporting bills that would enable the state achieve a sustainable economic and social development, particularly with regards to higher institutions of learning.

The Chairman of the committee stressed that, upgrading Sa’adatu Rimi college of education would lead to unprecedented development to Kano State, in the areas of employment, producing graduates as professional teachers, learning and research, promoting and conducting research in education, and other areas of human endeavor, that would benefit the state, country and humanity.

In her remarks, Permanent Secretary Kano state Ministry of Justice who double as Solicitor General, Barrister Amina Yusuf ‘Yargaya noted that, the upgrade of Sa’adatu Rimi college of education to a university is in line with Kano state government’s policy on free and compulsory education.

She highlighted that, the proposal for the upgrade was submitted to the state ministry of education, where it was forwarded to the executive council, and now with the state House of Assembly for subsequent deliberation and passage.

In his remarks, Provost Sa’adatu Rimi college of education, Professor Isah Yahaya Bunkure described the institution as a center of excellence that has trained thousands of professionals in the area of education.

He pointed out that, the proposal for the upgrade was written by a team of experts in line with rules and regulations guiding the process.

Dr. Isah Yahaya Bunkure commended the state government and kano state House of Assembly for making the upgrade a reality and charged relevant stakeholders to contribute their quota to the actualization of the university.

Radio Nigeria reports that, The college of education was established in October 1981 as as advanced teacher’s college.

In 1982, the schools was renamed College of education kumbotso, and later changed to Sa’adatu Rimi college of education in memory of the late wife of the former governor of Kano state late Alhaji Abubakar Rimi.
