Fire Guts Tsangaya School Hostel In Kano

The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed that 14 rooms and other valuables were razed by an evening fire at Almajiri Tsangaya Primary Model Boarding School in Kanwa Madobi Local Government of the state.

The Executive Secretary SEMA, Dr Aliyu Saleh Jili, confirmed the incident while leading a delegation to the affected school.

According to him the incident occurred on October 31, at about 5:00 p.m. at the school hostel in Kanwa Madobi Local Government of the state.

He said they were at the school on behalf of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, to symphatize and donate relief materials with the hope that the gesture would alleviate their suffering.

Dr. Saleh said that the materials include: 20 bags of maize 10kg, 20 bags of rice 10kg, two bags of salt, seasoning cubes, vegetable oil, 212 blankets and 212 mosquito nets, among others.

The Executive Secretary urged members of the public, especially women using firewood, gas and charcoal, to handle fire with care and always switch off their electrical appliances whenever they were going out or going to bed to avoid disasters.

“The cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be ascertained”.

In his remarks, the Chairman Kano State Qur’anic, Islamiyya and Tsangaya School’s Board, Gwani Yahuza Dan-Zarga, commended Governor Ganduje and the agency for the donation.

“We thank Almighty God, out of the 211 students we have in the school no one was injured”.

He highlighted that, the incident happened when the students were undergoing evening classes, saying that, all the 14 rooms in their hostel were completely razed including properties.

Also speaking, the Village Head of Kanwa, Alhaji Isyaku Maitama, who was represented by Umar Maitama, commended the agency for the kind gesture.

Radio Nigeria reports that the State has 11 boys and 1 girls Tsangaya Schools’ for both Islamic and Western Education.

The Tsangaya schools were established by the Federal Government in 2014.
