Kano SUBEB Trains Over 4000 Teachers On New Techniques

The Executive Chairman, Kano State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, has described Jolly phonics learning technique as major catalyst that would promote pupils learning and writing skills.

Dr. Hayyo made the indication, while addressing participants of a capacity building workshop, organized by SUBEB in collaboration with UBEC, under better education service delivery for all (BESDA), and universal learning solution, held in Kano.

The executive chairman, who was represented by the Permanent Commissioner SUBEB, Alhaji Kabiru Ahmed pointed out that, the introduction of the new learning system, has greatly impacted on the learning process of primary one and two pupils in literacy and numeracy.

According to him, the workshop would greatly enhance teachers modern learning techniques, that helps children learn to read and write through a systematic process.

” I appreciate Kano state government for the prompt release of it’s counter intervention fund to UBEC for execution of various education projects in the state”

In his remarks, Assistant Director Training and Desk Officers jolly SUBEB, Malam Umar Sheriff stressed that, the training targets over four thousand five hundred head teachers and primary school teachers across, the forty four local government areas in the state.

On the impact on learners and instructors, Jolly phonics manager, Malam Nura Ibrahim maintained that, the new teaching technique is a fun and interactive tool that uses the synthetic phonics literacy teaching methodology.

Also speaking, Director Universal Learning Solution, Mr. Richard Turnbull said the literacy project in Kano has gone from strength to strength.

He noted that, it is a fantastic opportunity for all children in Kano state to learn reading and writing, that would help increase equal opportunities in Kano state.

“UBEC have really recognized the tremendous impact that jolly phonics has been having on literacy level in Nigerian government schools”.

While commending SUBEB, Nigeria Country Director, Universal learning solutions initiative, Mr. Patrick Uzu described the exceptional partnership as highly instrumental to the success of the project .
