Taraba State : Traditional Leader Commends Distribution Of ITNs By Consortium

The Lamido of Gashaka, in Gashaka local government area of Taraba State, Dr. Zubairu Hammangabdo has expressed gratitude to Malaria Consortium for distributing insecticidal treated mosquito nets in the area.

The royal father expressed this after observing the distribution of the nets in some wards within the towns of Serti and Baruwa .

He commended the consortium for the level of awareness created by the media that led to the large turnout of residents to collect the nets.

Hammangabdo, also told journalists in Serti that the effort would go a long way in reducing the rampant cases of malaria , especially among children and women.

He urged his subjects to use the nets appropriately to boost the health of their families, and save money that could be used on malaria treatment for other purposes.

Some residents of Serti described the gesture as timely, saying that the nets would reduce the expenses incurred regularly on malaria treatment.

Similarly, Alhaji Umaru Bariki, another resident, said that he mandated all his family members to always sleep under the treated mosquito nets, while Mr. Maxwell Dauda of the Army Barracks quarters, said that he could not remember when he slept without a treated mosquito net.

The District Head of Baruwa township, Yerima Hayatu on his part, enjoined other residents to make good use of the nets and not to divert them to other purposes.

Primary Health Care Department representative, Malum Manu reiterated his readiness to support the consortium toward achieving universal health coverage.

He said that the distribution was in support of the fight against malaria across the state.

The Malaria Consortium is a UK charity organization that specializes in the prevention, control, and treatment of malaria as well as other communicable diseases in developing countries.
