Reps Investigates Revenue Allocation To States, LGAs

House of Representatives is to investigate the accurate data of Revenue Allocations provided by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission RMAFC for the 36 states and Local Government Areas of the federation.

The house has also resolved to include the 13 percent derivation shared by the commission from 2012 to 2021 and the current nature of maintenance of the data.

The lawmaker’s resolutions are part of the prayers contained in a motion sponsored by a member from Benue state Mr. Mark Gbilla, adopted by the house during its proceedings.

Mr. Mark Gbillah, similarly, expressed concern about the nation’s current revenue allocation formula and allocation principles instituted during a military regime when 6 States and 185 Local Government Areas were created.

He maintained that the new proposal forwarded to the President in April 2022 by the commission for a revenue allocation formula was alleged to have been 30 years old allocation principles with no consideration for contentious horizontal allocation formula which determines the actual impact on the lives of Nigerians.

Adopting the motion, the house mandated its Committee on Finance to unravel the indices computed for each of the 36 states and 774 LGAS transmitted to the Accountant General of the Federation by the fiscal commission for revenue disbursement to the states from 2012 to 2021.

The probe would further look into the violation or otherwise by the Federal Ministry of Finance, CBN, and other members of the FAAC in the administration of the federation account considering some Sections of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and report back to the house within 8 weeks.
