President Buhari Harps On Sustainable Peace In Chad

President Muhammadu Buhari, is in Chad for the inauguration of General Mahamat Idriss Debt itno, as the president of the Chadian Transition Government and Head of State.

At the ceremony President Buhari, urged stakeholders in the Chadian political process to consolidate and re-establish a resilient and sustainable democracy for the benefit of the people of Chad. 

President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the current Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Countries, LCBC, on Monday, took part in the inauguration of Chad’s interim administration to lead the country to elections and the formation of a democratic government. 

A statement by the Senior Special Assistance to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu states that the President, congratulates General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno , the head of the Chadian Transition Government and Head of State for earning the trust of the majority of Chadians to head the transition process to full fruition. 

He also commended other participants for displaying patriotism in reclaiming their country from the path of instability and repositioning it for sustainable governance.

The President expresses hope that the event will, “hopefully bring to closure, the painful phase of the Chadian political history which led to the sad passage of one of Chad’s most illustrious sons, late Marshal Idriss Deby itno.”

The President believes the successful inauguration will usher in another period of peace and stability within Chad and the sub-region to build on the gains of previous efforts.

At the ceremony, the Head of the Transition Government Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, thanked President Buhari for the warmth and friendliness he had demonstrated towards the country and sub-region, especially in ensuring peace and stability. 

General Itno also commended President Buhari for his interventions in upholding the interest of the Chad Basin, and Africa, and promised to put in place a transition process that would reflect the will of the people, with focus on poverty eradication through provision of quality education, better health facilities and sustainable infrastructure.
