Borno State : IGP Inaugurates Projects To Fast Track Civil Authority Restoration

Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba has described community policing as best approach to tackle emerging security challenges in the country. 

The IGP stated this while inaugurating area command, divisional headquarters and police barracks in Benishiekh, headquarters of Kaga local government of Borno state.

As part of effort to restore civil authority in liberated areas devastated by the Boko Haram insurgency, the Nigeria Police and Borno state government have constructed and rehabilitated Police formations in different parts of the state. 

Since the escalation of the crisis in 2009, more that thirty police stations and twenty four barracks were destroyed by the insurgents in Borno. 

With peace gradually returning to the state, many Police stations are being constructed to extend security coverage to the resettled communities

Mr. Usman Alkali Baba said policing is a collective responsibility, hence the need for active participation of all Nigerians to address the insecurity in parts of the country. 

He explained that to strengthen the policing system at the community level, all the newly recruited police personnel have been deployed to their local governments of origin. 

On the 2023 General elections, Usman Alkali assured that the Force will provide the enabling environment for peaceful conduct of the elections.

He however called on political parties and their candidates to strictly adhere to the provisions of the electoral act to ensure a hitch free exercise. 

Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum lauded the Inspector General for the projects which he said will greatly help in the resettlement effort. 

He welcomed the synergy between security agencies in the state which has resulted in successes recorded in the counter insurgency operations. 

Borno state Commissioner of Police Abdu Umar said the Command has lost over three hundred policemen while over four hundred others were injured during the insurgency. 

He expressed confidence that the projects will improve the living condition of officers in the area and bring policing closer to people of the state. 

Correspondent Dauda Iliya reports that the Inspector General also inaugurated office accommodation and road network at Police College in Maiduguri.
