ASUU Strike Will Be Over In Couple Of Days – Gbajabiamila

The ongoing industrial dispute between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal government will be over in a couple of days.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila stated while addressing National Assembly correspondents at the end of his meeting with ASUU leadership in Abuja.

Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, stressed that leadership of the striking lecturers was set to sign an agreement to end the dispute based on the house recommendations that were presented to President Mohammadu Buhari by the House Leadership.

He also revealed as part effort to find a lasting solution on the dispute, after studying the house recommendations, President Buhari, was expected to make a pronouncement towards the final resolution on the issue.

Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, who was delighted with President Muhammadu Buhari’s positve disposition over the house intervention, assured the striking workers that they would be invited for a feedback after the house leadership has met with President.

On the policy of no work no pay implemented by the federal government, the speaker also confirmed that the president will look into the matter while office of the accountant General has agreed to accommodate ASUU’s demands into the IPPIS Salary structure.

In his response, ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Sodeke, who led other members of the union to the meeting, expressed satisfaction with the views expressed by the Speaker over the signing of the agreement to end the strike.

He assured the speaker that the Union is going to issue a statement to it’s members in respect of their meeting with house leadership as a step to end face-off as soon as possible in the interest of Nigerians especially the students.

The ASUU President however appreciated the speaker and his teem for the meeting and assured Nigerian child at home that the lingering strike action will soon be a thing of the past.
