Meeting of National Peace Committee in Minna Niger state.

Two peace accord for ensuring the conduct of hitch free twenty twenty three general elections are to be signed by the National Peace Committee and candidates of all registered political parties in Nigeria before the general elections.

The two peace accords to be signed are that of presidential candidates and the recently introduced peace accord that has to do with free and fair campaigns to avoid campaign of columny.

Former Head of state and Chairman National Peace Committee General Abdulsalami Abubakar stated this while addressing Newsmen after their expanded meeting which lasted for hours in Minna.

General Abdulsalami Abubakar explained that signing of free and fair campaign for the candidates to accept outcome of twenty twenty three general elections if they feel is free and fair will be done next week in Abuja and that of presidential candidates in January next year.

The Chairman National Peace Committee called on politicians to desist from politics of intimidation and blackmail instead should embark on issue based campaigns.

He also cautioned the electorates against selling their votes but to elect credible leaders of their choice to enhance rapid development of the country.

Chairman Independent Electoral Commission INEC Prof Mahmud Yakubu who thanked members of National Peace Committee for doing more to sanitised the electoral process however reaffirmed the determination of INEC in conducting free fair and credible elections in Nigeria. 

Former Chief of Defence Staff General Mathew Luther Agwai said they are brainstorming on how they can make February twenty twenty three general elections peaceful and in conformity with best practices the world over.

Among the dignataries that graced the meeting are the Sultan of Sokoto Dr Sa’ad  Abubakar Arc Bishop of Sokoto Diocese Reverend Mathew Hassan Kuka Etsu Nupe and Chairman Niger state Council of Traditional Rulers Alh Yahaya Abubakar business mongols Aliko Dangote and Femi Atedola among others.
