Kano State : NEMA Donates Relief Materials To Flood, Fire Victims

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has presented relief materials to Kano state for distribution to flood victims in four local governments areas and Kantin Kwari Market.

The Director General NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed-Habib, made the disclosure while presenting the relief materials in Kano.

The affected local governments areas include Kiru, Albasu, Ajingi, and Dawakin Kudu local government as well as Kantin Kwari market.

According to him, the items distributed include 4,200 bags of 10kg rice, 4,200 bags of beans, 4,200 bags of maize, 700 kegs of 20 litres vegetable oil, 350 cartons of seasoning cube and 100 cartons of tomato paste.

Other items are 2,100 bags of cement, 1,600 bundles of roofing sheets, 300 bags of 25kg (3 inch roofing nails), 600 packets of zinc nail, 800 pieces of ceiling board, 1,000 pieces of mosquito nets, 1,000 pieces of guinea brocade and 1,000 pieces of wax prints.

Also distributed were 1,000 pieces of men wears, 1,000 pieces of women wears, 1,000 pieces of children wears, 1,500 pieces of blankets and 2,800 nylon mats”

He further explained that the relief intervention, is a testimony of the Federal Government through NEMA, which is always concerned about the welfare and well-being of the people.

The DG commended the state government for being among the best to take disaster risk management to the grass root through Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC).

“Disaster had become part and parcel of life, we must learn to mitigate, reduce an impact transfer loss through insurance and live with them in extreme case”

He reiterated the continuous support of the agency in the area of capacity building, relief intervention and sharing of disaster response asset especially with NEMA Territorial Office Kano.

Responding, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, commended NEMA for providing the state with relief intervention, which would go a long way in alleviating the suffering of those affected.

He noted that the State government would not relent in its efforts of improve the welfare of the people through vibrant policies and programmes.

Also speaking, the Managing Director Kantin Kwari Market, Alhaji Abba Muhammad Bello, commended NEMA and SEMA for the support.
