A dedicated phone line is being developed to provide farmers and rural areas with information on climate prediction.
Mr James Adamu, Chief Meterologist, Agriculture, Nigerian Meterological Agency, NIMET, stated this at a workshop for agriculturalists in Lafia, Nasarawa State’s capital.
He stated that by 2023, NiMet would transition from mobile applications to short messaging services to assist farmers without Android phones to obtain weather information.
Mr Joshua Jonathan, National President of the Association of Small Scale Agro Producers in Nigeria, emphasized the importance of governments increasing efforts to raise awareness among farmers about the importance of seasonal climate predictions.
