Taraba: Court Dismisses Lawsuit Challenging PDP Guber Candidacy

In Taraba State, a Federal high court sitting in Jalingo has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the emergence of People’s Democratic Party, PDP candidate Colonel Kefas Agbu (rtd).

The judgment was passed on Monday 19th September 2022 by Justice Someone Amobeda in Jalingo, the state capital.

The suit filed by Professor Jerome Nyameh, challenged Agbu’s election over the violation of Part VII, Article 1 of the Electoral Guidelines for the Primary Elections of PDP, 2022, having failed to resign as the state party chairman.

Nyameh had submitted that the primary election was held on May 25th, 2022, which was only six days after Agbu resigned, and many days after the screening of aspirants on April 28, when he was still the state party’s chairman.

Nyameh further submitted that Agbu only resigned via a letter dated May 17th, 2022, which was received at the national headquarters on May 19th 2022.

Recalled that Agbu polled 443 votes to come first, while Professor Joseph Albasu and Professor Nyameh got 31 and 24 votes respectively during the primary.
