VP Osinbajo To Attend Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will represent Nigeria on Monday at the funeral for the late Queen Elizabeth ll of the United Kingdom.

According to a statement by his spokesperson, Laolu Akande released on Saturday.

“Prof. Osinbajo departs Abuja today and will join members of the Royal Family, world leaders – including members of the Commonwealth, Heads of State, Governors-General, Prime Ministers, and foreign royal families – at the ceremonies, including the funeral service scheduled to hold at Westminster Abbey on Monday,” the statement partly read.

The Vice President will be received by King Charles lll and Queen Consort Camilla, at a reception in Buckingham Palace on Sunday.

He will hold a bilateral meeting with the UK Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, and scheduled to return to Nigeria on Monday.

Queen Elizabeth ll who was the Head of the Commonwealth and the longest serving British monarch, passed on at 96 on September 8, 2022 at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

The Queen’s Funeral list

About 500 leaders and dignitaries from the UK and around the world will join the Royal Family at Westminster Abbey.

They include Belgium’s King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands and King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, as well as members of the royal families of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Monaco.

US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Other world leaders likely to attend include the Japanese Emperor Naruhito, Irish Taoiseach Micheal Martin, French President Emmanuel Macron, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
