Ruto Sworn-in As Kenya’s 5th President

William Ruto has been sworn-in as Kenya’s fifth president on Tuesday.

This comes a week after the country’s Supreme Court threw out petitions challenging his victory at the last presidential election.

Ruto takes over the helm of affairs from Uhuru Kenyatta, whom he served as deputy since 2013, although Kenyatta had publicly backed the opposition leader, Raila Odinga.

The 60,000-capacity Kasarani Sports Center in Nairobi as at 5 a.m. was already filled to capacity according to the police.

Odinga accepted the decision by the country’s top court, but stayed away from Tuesday’s inauguration ceremony.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo represented Nigeria at the event.
