Inter Sectoral Synergy Improves Girl Child Education In Kano

GEP under the support of PERL- ECP, held a dissemination session with relevant Stakeholders on education for the 2022 budget performance of girl’s education in Kano state.

In his remarks, Special Adviser to Kano state governor on free and compulsory education, and co-chair girls education partnership (GEP), Dr. Kabiru Shehu said the state government had set aside a budget code on girls education due to advocacy by the partnership.

The co-chair commended the efforts of citizens, on their consistency in advocating for timely release of funds, allocated to girls education to the relevant MDAs in the state.

He noted that, over one hundred and ninety million naira additional support funds were provided by the state to sponsor female students SSCE examination, in addition to the twelve million naira for repairs of shuttle buses for female students.

Also speaking, state chairman school based management committee (SBMC), Alhaji Tijjani Haladu Baraya, pointed out that as part of efforts to uplift the standards of education, Kano state government had set up a committee to oversee the renovation of twenty two schools across the state.

He pointed out that, the ongoing project, under Kano state urban planning development authority (KNUPDA) gave special consideration to four girls secondary schools.

A member of GEP and Kano state Coodinator CSACEFA, Dr. Auwal Halilu said citizens analysed the releases of the 2022 budget.

He highlighted that, findings revealed more insights on how to improve girls education in Kano.

In his presentation titled ‘ Girls education and releases for 2022 budget’ Comrade Safiyanu Lawan Bichi of Kano budget working group, brought to light that ministry for local governments, SUBEB and Agency for Mass Education have releases on girls education.

Earlier in her remarks, State Partnership Facilitator PERL – Hajara Suleiman maintained that, the dissemination was to provide an update on the 2022 GE Budget performance, and identify possible ways for further engagements that will facilitate releases and tracking of implementation by the citizens.

She stressed that, it is important to reflect on successes and challenges which are aimed to improve access, increase enrollment, retention, transition and completion of girl education in school.
