VP Osinbajo Meets US Vice President

The United states has congratulated Nigeria for her energy transition plan; pledging carbon neural energy by 2060.

Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris gave the commendation on Friday, during a meeting with Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo at the White House in Washington D.C

Kamala described the plan as ambitious but important, and expressed the hope that the goal would be achieved.

The meeting also discussed global issues such as food and security as well as ways to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries and the rest of Africa.

The US Vice President pointed out that the country has invested $7bn to food security and other humanitarian assistance to African countries over the past year

On democracy in the continent, Kamala said the United States was committed to supporting free and fair elections in Nigeria next year which she expressed confidence would reflect the will of the people.

‘’Nigeria has always being an important partner in upholding the international rules based order; whether it is tackling the democratic backsliding that we have been seeing in West Africa or standing up for Ukraine through the UN’’, US Vice President said.

Vice President Osinbajo while appreciating Kamala for hosting him, pledged commitment to strengthening relations between both nations.

Prof. Osinbajo pointed out that the US had always being a strong supporter of Nigeria’s economic and social development goals.

He also thanked the US for also supporting the Nation’s fight against terrorism and during the Covid-19 pandemic.

On August 24, Nigeria launched the energy transition plan to address energy poverty and climate change.

Vice President Osinbajo has said Nigeria would need to spend over $410b to deliver its energy transition plan by 2060.
