3 More States to Join HYPPADEC

Commissioning of HYPPADEC headquarters and distribution of some operational vehicles by Niger state Governor Alh Abubakar Sani Bello accompanied by his Deputy in Minna.

Three new states are to be included in the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission HYPPADEC soon.

The expansion would bring to nine the number of benefiting states from the present six.

Managing Director HYPADEC, Alhaji  Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa stated this at the commissioning of its headquarters and distribution of some operational vehicles by Niger state Governor Abubakar Sani Bello in Minna.

Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa explained that the new States that are proposing to join the already existing six member states are Kaduna Gombe and Taraba.

 The HYPPADEC existing member States are Niger, Kebbi, Kwara , Benue, Kogi and Plateau. 

“The additional States that will soon come onboard as a result  of the devastating effect of environmental and ecological impact of flooding as a result of the activities of hydro dam.

He explained that, Kaduna State will be included in the Commission beause it contribute from River Kaduna to the yet to be completed Zungeru Hydro dam in Niger State. 

Similarly, the Managing Director said Taraba state is already on its way to hosting the bigest hydro dam in Nigeria while, Gombe is  also at the receiving end of the impact of flooding and other ecological problems.

Chairman Governing Council, Mr Joseph  Terfa Ityav commended President Muhammad Buhari for ensuring that the  Commission was not only established on paper , but becomes operational and deliver to its best.

Insugurating the multi million naira edifice Governor Abubakar Sani said that HYPADEC has brought succour and relief to communities suffering from perennial ecological impact of flooding.

Governor Bello however added that the signing of the HYPADEC bill into law has brought relief to Niger flood plain communities.
