2023 Polls : INEC Seeks Support Of Traditional Institutions

The Independent National Electoral Commission has solicited the support of traditional institutions for the successful conduct of the 2023 general elections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Kano Professor Risqua Arabi Shehu disclose this while receiving the Oba of Yoruba in Kano , Mr. Murtala Alimi Otisese when he paid a courtesy call to the commission in Kano.

Professor Risqua Arabi Shehu represented by the administrative secretary of the commission in Kano Alhaji Garba Lawal said over five hundred thousand eligible voters have revalidated their permanent voter’s cards in kano.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner noted that Kano has over six million people eligible voters.

He maintained that traditional institutions have a vital role to play in enlightening the general populace on the importance of voting for credible leaders come 2023.

“We are appealing to your highness to enlighten your people on the importance of making adequate utilization of their voters cards, and should desist from selling their votes during the election and be vanguards of peace”

Earlier the Oba Yoruba Kano state Mr. Murtala Alimi Otisese said as traditional leaders, they would expedite action in enlightening their people in ensuring that they exercise their franchise in achieving free, fair, and credible elections.

He urged the people of the state and the nation at large to ensure that they collect their PVCs and come out en mass during the elections to exercise their constitutional responsibility peacefully for the well-being of the nation.
