Heavy downpour Submerge Roads, Houses In Zamfara State

Heavy downpour has caused flooding in some areas where roads, Houses, farmlands and other business environments submersed in Zamfara State.

Radio Nigeria in Gusau reports that, the heavy downpour which last for three hours started at about 9am, Thursday.

Most of the affected areas were in Gusau the State Capital and Gusau – Kaura Namoda road which flood covered parts of the road at Lambar-Rawayya, Yar Tukunya and Bela.

The areas affected in the state Capital includes; Bulka, Gada Biyu, Hayin Dan-hausa , behind Govt House and behind Science Secondary School among others where the flooding forced many residents to vacate their homes while others became restless blocking the water from entering their houses.

Our Reporter, who visited the affected areas reports that, workers, students and traders were also affected by the downpour as transportation was halted as commercial riders couldn’t operate.

Residents interviewed in the areas solicited for urgent intervention in the provision of waterways, culverts and drainages for smooth flow of the water.

When contacted, the officer incharge of NIMET Gusau office, Muhammad Garba Ribah, said, they have earlier forecasted the problem and advised people to take preventive measures to avoid any unwanted happening but some refused.

He their urged residents to comply with the advises earlier given to them.

It could be recalled that, the Nigeria Meterological Agency, NIMET, has warned people living in riverine areas to vacate and avoid dumping refuse in drainages and waterways.
