The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba says the federal government’s policy of recruiting ten thousand Police personnel every year will address the manpower deficit and emerging security challenges confronting parts of the country.
IGP Alkali stated this at the passing out ceremony of 1087 of the 2020 batch of Police constables at the Nigerian Police College Maiduguri.
Represented by Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of logistics and supply, Zanna Ibrahim, the Inspector General observed that the annual recruitment exercise will restore the lost glory of the Force to attain its mandate as the lead agency in internal security.
He pointed out that recruiting ten thousand youth will also save the young men and women the tendency to engage in crime and equally bolster the fight against criminal activities in the county.
“the graduating recruit constables are coming into a reformed Police Force that is experiencing an ethical rebirth and that is increasingly well-equipped, well-motivated and appropriately oriented and positioned to take the war against crimes to the fortress of criminal elements that are bent on threatening our communal values for peace, security and liberty ” Alkali Baba said.
The Inspector General announced that another set of ten thousand recruits will soon resume training under 2021 batch of the exercise across the fifteen training institutions.
He charged the graduands to be disciplined and always discharge thier duties with professionalism.
The Commandant Nigerian Police College Maiduguri, Deputy Commissioner of Police Bernard Onoha said one thousand and eighty seven recruits have successfully graduated.
According to him, the College has not recorded any casualty throughout the six months training.
