FAAN Shuts Down Lagos Airport Runway For Repairs

The domestic airport runway of the Lagos airport is to be closed to flights to allow for the installation of airfield lighting.

In a Notice to Airmen, NOTAM by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency NAMA, the runway will be shut from 0000-23000 08/07/2022 to 05/09/2022 for the completion of the work.

According to NOTAM, the runway will be shut down to flight from midnight July 7th to September 5th 2022 and all domestic traffic diverted to the International Airport runway.

The installation of the airfield lighting is to aid aircraft land after sunset and at night on the runway.

During the duration of the installation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, the agency in charge of the project will be installing approach lights, Runway lights comprising the threshold, centerline, edge light among others.

The runway closure has been communicated to the airline operators in a meeting held with stakeholders.

Our aviation correspondent reports that installation of the airfield lighting is coming after 14 years.
