PDP Suspends Borno Vice Chairman, Five Others Over Alleged Misconduct

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP has suspended the Vice Chairman and five other executives of the party in Borno state over gross misconduct and breach of the party’s constitution.

At a media briefing in Maiduguri, PDP state Chairman Zanna Gaddama faulted the purported suspension by the six officials who constitutionally have no powers to suspend the Chairman.

The chairman said it was necessary to clear the air of the unlawful gathering by some group of suspended party officials in an attempt to cause confusion, disunity and disaffection and possible breakdown of law and order.

Zanna Gaddama observed that the activities of the suspended officers contravene the provision of section 36 (1)  (a) and (b) of the party constitution which gives power to the only State secretary of party as a chief executive officer to call for a meeting and also Section 35 (1) (a) & (d) that gives power to the chairman to summon and preside over a meeting.

“The meeting today which was summoned by the state secretary on the directives of the state chairman have suspended Alhaji Bunu Satomi, state legal adviser Abdu Jidda, Honourable Kaka Shettima, Abba Kalumi, Mohammed Ballah and Umar Shani” Gaddama said.

He urged party supporters to remain calm and be law abiding as decisions were taken in accordance with the constitution of the party.

The briefing had in attendance the State Chairman, State Secretary, members of the State Working and executive Committee,  the 27 local Government chairman, Party flagbearears among others officers.

Some officials of the PDP last week passed a vote of no confidence on the state Chairman and suspended him for a period of one month for engaging in anti party activities.
