The Nigerian Army has distributed learning materials to primary school pupils in Nasarawa state to commemorate the 2022 Nigerian Army Day Celebration.

At the flag-off ceremony in Doma Local Government Area of the state, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya said the initiative was in furtherance to the Nigerian Army’s corporate social responsibility to the civilian community in adding value to the education sector.

Addressing pupils and parents at the Doma Central Science Pilot Primary School, Doma, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya stated that the Army had embarked on educational outreach as part of activities to mark the 2022 Nigerian Army Day Celebration to strengthen its relationship with the civilian community.

He explained that primary school pupils were targeted for the outreach to inculcate to the children the virtues of patriotism to their country and hard work.

The Chief of Army Staff represented by Commander 4 Special Forces Command Doma, Brigadier General Lewis Lepdung noted that 4,402 copies of textbooks were distributed to 2,402 pupils from three primary schools in Doma Local Government Area of the state.

Head teacher to one of the benefiting schools, Local Government Education Authorities, Doma East, Mr Aminu Aliyu Abdullahi said the intervention of the Nigerian Army came at a critical time the education sector especially at the primary school level was in dire need of attention.

One of the pupils, Hauwa Halidu Abdulkadir said the learning materials would improve her reading skills.

The high point of the outreach was a class session where Staff Officer 2 of the Command Education, Major Babawale Taiwo taught the pupils about the primary roles of the Nigerian Army and what is expected of the children when they grow up.
