Sustainability Of Long Term Education Policies Will Boost Girls Education -Emir Of Kano

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has called on government to sustain long term education policies aimed at uplifting the standard of girl’s education.

Alhaji Aminu made the call while receiving members of Girl Education Partnership (GEP) with support from Partnership to Engage Reform and Learn (PERL) at Kano emirate council.

According to the Emir, policies should have a long term plan to enable proper implementation and evaluation to achieve the desired objectives.

Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero who was represented by Madakin Kano Alhaji Yusuf Labahani maintained that, Kano emirate council had been at the fore front of promoting girls education through District and Ward heads to penetrate people at the grass root level.

He pointed out, that the emirate had sponsored female students in some selected local government areas through secondary and tertiary institutions.

The Emir reiterated that Kano emirates commitment to ensure enrollment, retention, transition and completion of girls education.

He called on philanthropists and wealthy individuals to contribute their quota to the development of girls education in the state.

“Our doors are always open to receive those interested in developing the educational sector”.

Earlier in her remarks, the leader of the delegation and co chair Girls Education Partnership (GEP), Hajiya Mero Bello said the partnership is working tirelessly to uplift the standard of girls education.

She noted that the partnership was established to brain storm and profer lasting solutions to problems bedevilling girl child education.

“The coalition is a combination of citizens groups, government officials and the media”.

Also speaking, a member of GEP, who doubles as chairman CSACEFA and a lecturer with the department of Adult education and community development, Dr. Auwal Halilu said the coalition had organized a town hall meeting in Rogo, Kunchi and Warawa local government areas.

He described poverty, insecurity, lack of potable drinking water, drug abuse, inadequate funding, as some of the major setbacks to girl’s education.

Dr. Auwal said GEP with support from PERL had made significant progress in it’s advocacy as the state government had established a girl child education unit, and set aside budget code for girls education in 2022 proposed budget.

He added that, the partnership had also advocated for contributions from private organizations as part of corporate social responsibility by providing scholarship opportunities, learning materials and structures.

“There’s too much burden on the government private organizations should also be part of those that will come in to make girls education stronger”

Radio Nigeria reports that, the Girls Education Partnership with support from Partnership to Engage Reform and learn (PERL), had visited Rano, Karaye and Kano emirate council to advocate for cooperation of the Emirs in educating the public on how to support and upgrade girls education to global standards.
