The Executive Director of the Institute of Agricultural Research Ahmadu Bello University Zaria professor Mohammed Fagachi Ishiyaku has described the PBR Cowpea variety as one of the best performing varieties produced under scientific research.
Professor Fagachi Ishiyaku disclosed this during a media briefing to commemorate one year of PBR Cowpea in the hands of Nigerian Farmers, held in Kano.
The Executive Director who is the principal investigator of the variety said the PBR Cowpea variety which has been in use by the Nigerian farmers for one year is more effective in terms of yield production.
He said the cost of production was highly reduced stressing that the variety is resistant to insects and easy to produce.
Professor Mohammad fagachi ishiyaku noted that the variety was doing wonderful on the farm with two spreads of insecticides during the production process, saying the rumor perpetrated by unscrupulous elements that the variety is harmful to human life was baseless and untrue.
Some of the farmers who have used the variety on their farms testified about the effectiveness of the PBR Cowpea.
They advise Nigerian farmers to Shun rumors about the new variety and adopt the use of the variety in their farms, geared toward boosting Cowpea production in the Country.
