Blasphemy: Sokoto Govt Orders Investigation To Avoid Civil Unrest

Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukah has
Called on Christians in the country to remain calm and to avoid any action that might ignite civil unrest in the country.

The revered leader made the call in a response to the unfortunate incident that let to the loss of live of a female student, Deborah Yakubu at the Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto state.

The tragedy occurred following alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad S.A.W made by the female student.

Bishop in a statement called on the authorities to arrest and punished the culprit by the extant laws of the land

‘In a related development, his eminence the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar condemned the killing of the student and called for the immediate arrest of the culprits.

In a statement signed by the secretary of the Sultanate Council, Saidu Maccido said
the Sultanate Council has learnt with dismay the unfortunate happening and urged Muslims to also remain calm as the authorities concern are currently working to ensure Justice is done.
At a news gathering, Sokoto State Commissioner, for Information, Isa Bajini Galadanchi, said Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has already directed a full investigation into the matter in a bid to avoid civil unrest in the state.

He further added that the government had directed immediate closure of the institutions to forestall a breakdown of law and order in the state.
