Governor Badaru Abubukar has directed political appointees aspiring for political offices in the forthcoming 2023 general elections to resign on or before Monday, May 16, 2022.

This was contained in a statement by the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir Fanini to Radio Nigeria through the Public Relations officer of the SSG’s office Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse.

It says the decision complies with the provision of section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act 2022, signed by President Muhammadu Buhari which provides that political appointees aspiring to contest elections shall resign their positions before the conduct of political party primaries.

“No political appointees at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the Convention or Congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election”, the section states.

The Statement notes that appointees willing to contest for political offices have from now until Monday to resign and that the affected officials should tender resignation letters to the office of the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State.
