School Resumption : Parents Appeal For End To Water Scarcity In Kano

Schools in Kano have resumed after five weeks vacation from 1st April to 9th May 2022

Radio Nigeria’s correspondent in Kano observed that there was large turn out of students within the metropolitan local government areas.

Most of the students were seen waiting for vehicles to convey them to school, while others were trekking to meet up with the time before the school gates were locked.

Reports indicate that, lessons have commenced in most schools as students were heard repeating after their teachers.

A teacher in one of the states secondary schools who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the development to Radio Nigeria, saying that a large number of students were present compared to some resumption dates were few students make it to school.

He explained that the achievement may not be unconnected with the tireless efforts of the state government in enlightening parents and guardians on the importance of education as well as the provision of free and compulsory education.

Some students Mariya A. Muhammad and Zainab Nurudeen Jibril who spoke to Radio Nigeria said they were eager to resume after the long break.

They appealed to the state government to maintain the tempo in uplifting the standard of education.

Some parents in Kano, Nurudeen Jibril,Sulaiman Umar and Saratu Muhammad expressed optimism about education in Kano.

They described lack of portable drinking water as a major setbacks to education in Kano.

They noted that most residents trek long distance to fetch water and as schools resume most of those affected would be compelled to devise means of sourcing for water which may lead to lateness among others.

Radio Nigeria reports that,Kano state governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had apologised to residents over lack of portable drinking water during hawan Nasarawa and promised to bring an end to the prevailing scarcity.
