Drug Abuse, Others Catalyst To Societal Ills – NOA

Drug abuse, cyber crime, human trafficking, illegal migration, radicalization and violent extremism has been identified as some of the major catalysts to problems bedevilling the country.

The Director National Orientation Agency Kano (NOA) ,Alhaji Lawal Haruna Makarfi ,stated this during a one day security sensitization program for students, organized by NOA in collaboration with International Organization for Migration (IOM),held at Kano state college of education and premilinary studies (CAS).

According to the director , the sensitization was aimed at enlightening students on the dangers of drug abuse and other societal vices to maintain a crime free society.

Lawal Makarfi said similar workshops were organized by the Agency in Bayero University Kano and the Kano state university of science and technology Wudil.

The director noted that over 200 students from Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina,Kano, Kaduna and Jigawa state were educated on how to be good ambassadors.

Also speaking, Assistant director National Orientation Agency Headquarters Abuja, Audi Ayuba Mayo, explained that the workshop will focus attention on mitigating criminal activities among youths.

He said about 50 higher institutions of learning across the nation have benefitted from the workshop.

Ayuba Mayo called on parents and guardians to complement government’s efforts by sending their children to schools, as well as being vigilant through reporting any suspected person or character to relevant authorities.

The security sensitization workshop tagged ‘Campus watch witnessed large turn out of national drug law enforcement officials (NDLEA), security and para military agencies , students, academicians and the general public.
