FG Trains Rice Farmers On Modern Techniques

The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to training rice farmers in modern techniques of farming, aimed at improving yield production.

The Minister of Agricultural and Rural Development, Dr. Mohammad Mahmoud Abubakar stated this during a capacity-building training for young farmers from the northwest geopolitical zone held in Kano.

Represented by an assistant director in the Ministry of Agriculture, Malam Bashir Usman said the training was organized for rice farmers from the northwest part of the country geared toward improving rice production.

He said leaders of the Rice farmers association from the northwest were gathered and trained on how to use the modern seeds of rice, stressing that if the seeds were properly used the farmers would have a bumper harvest.

“We bring these rice farmers together to train them on how to use the modern seeds, we invited professionals from the Institute of Agriculture Ahmadu Bello University Zaria with aim of ensuring that farmers were acquainted with the modern techniques”

Malam Bashir Usman maintained that the participants were supported with free pesticides and assorted seeds , aimed at ensuring that the program achieved maximum success.

In a remark, the organizing secretary of the rice farmers association Kano chapter, Alhaji Isa Mohammad Bawa said the capacity building training was very timely.

He applauded the foresight and commitment of the federal government, especially in the aspect of boosting rice production and other agricultural products.

The training was attended by participants from the Northwest geopolitical zone of the Nation.
