Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), is to collaborate with Universities in the areas of research development to enhance innovation in different fields.

The Group Managing Director, Mr. Mele Kolo kyari, stated this during the Commissioning ceremony of Centre for Inland Basin Studies at the Ahmadu Bello University ABU, Zaria.

Mele Kolo kyari explained that the centre which was established to serve as a hub for research on hydrocarbon resources in the inland basin if properly sustained would reduce over dependant on foreign technologies.

Represented by the Group Executive Director Cooperate Services, Haj. Aisha Katagum expressed satisfaction with how the centre was equipped with modern facilities such as lecture halls, library and seminar rooms, laboratories among others.

According to her, the project initiated in 2018, is based on request by the University for NNPC’s intervention in the construction of the Centre.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of ABU, Zaria Prof. Kabiru Bala, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, appreciated the NNPC over the gesture and assured judicious use of the Centre for the development of teaching and research.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Sabon Garin Local Government Area, Engr. Muh’d Usman said apart from research the project would assist ABU Zaria to achieve many of its aims and objectives.

Speaking to Radio Nigeria, the Contractor handling the project Eng. Rufa’i Abdulazeez noted that the centre consumed about six hundred and thirty million naira.
