Experts Advocate Inclusion Of Statistics In Educational Curriculum

The federal government has been urged to revise the nation’s Basic Education Curriculum to incorporate statistics to enable students know its significance for individual and societal growth.

The Dean Research and Innovation, at the Federal Polytechnic Offa , Dr. Korter Oluwatoyin made the call while presenting a survey on the need for statistics literacy at grassroots in Kwara state held at the federal Polytechnic Offa .

According to her, statistics should be introduced to students as a subject at the basic level of education to make it attractive.

She said it is only through the use of data that a nation can plan properly.

Dr. Oluwatoyin expressed worry over lack of interest by students to study statistics at tertiary institutions.

Earlier in his address of welcome the Acting Rector , The Federal Polytechnic Offa ,Dr,Olarongbe Afolabi ,represented by the Deputy Rector Academics, Augustine Adama commended the effort of the researcher in finding solution to the problem.

He also appealed to teachers and principals to design a method of introducing statistics in schools to encourage the students.
