Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello says engaging youths in skills acquisition program will reduce their involvement in social vices and other criminal activities.

Alhaji Ibrahim Bello announced this at the graduation ceremony of 56 participants of skills acquisition program organized by the Area Development Support Initiative, Zamfara State Chapter.

Represented by the Chiroman Gusau, Alhaji Mainasara Bello, the Emir said supporting youths in any meaningful event or program would enable them become self reliant and productive members of their immediate environment.

He explained that engaging them would rid the state, region and the country at large out of poverty and also contribute their quota positively towards development of the country.

The Emir also charged the youths to put in their best interest to accord dignity to themselves rather than return to thuggery and other social vices and called on other NGO’s to borrow leaf from ADSI.

Speaking earlier, the zamfara state coordinator of Arewa Development Support Initiative, Hajiya Sa’adatu Galadima said 56 persons were selected and made to undergo two months of training on knitting, poultry among others

According to her the training was coordinated by the office of the Zamfara first lady and ADSI with a view to complimenting government’s effort in reducing poverty and unemployment.

In a remark while presenting certificate of attendance to the beneficiaries, the Chairman Zamfara state Hajji Commission Lawal Isa Abdullahi reminded them not to sell the items given to them

Lawal also described the programme as a bold step in stamping out poverty, unemployment and political thuggery especially among youths.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Radio Nigeria commended the efforts of the organizers of the program and their facilitators and assured to use the gesture judiciously for others to benefit.
