The district head of Karaye, Alhaji Shehu Ahmed has charged parents and guardians to compliment government’s efforts, by presenting under five children to receive polio immunization to curtail the spread of the deadly infection.

Alhaji Shehu Ahmed made the call during a sensitization meeting, with community leaders held at Districts head office Karaye, for February immunization plus days.

The district head, who was represented by his secretary, Alhaji Yusuf Muhammad, explained that Karaye Emirate council was committed to ensuring all under five children receive the vaccines to ensure a healthy society.

Alhaji Shehu Usman who doubles as Magajin Garin Karaye, commended government at all levels for their dedication and commitment towards provision and administration of the vaccines.

Earlier in his remarks the primary health care coordinator of Karaye local government area, Malam Lawan Yahaya Getso, pointed out that Karaye local government had recieved 60,100 doses of polio vaccine.

He maintained that, 54249 children were targeted for the February 2022 immunization plus days.

Malam Lawan Yahaya said, Karaye local government immunization officer Abdullahi Surajo Rogo, World health organization representative, Mansur Yahaya Wudil, LGA health educator Mua’zu Wakili and Atiku Abubakar state representative were among those at the sensitization meeting.

He described the meeting as apt, due to the caliber of community leaders, parents, officials, development partners and relevant stakeholders that are working tirelessly to ensure smooth conduct of the February 2022 OBR campaign.

Journalists against polio who visited the local government observed that there was a large turn out of under five children accompanied by their parents and care givers to receive the vaccines.

Reports indicate that, over 54,000 children recieved the immunization across 10 wards including Turawa, Magajin Gari, Magajin Hayi, Kurugu, Daura, Kafin Dabga,Yammedi, Yola, Tudun Kaya and kwanyawa.
