Police Restrict Movement Over FCT Council Polls

FCT Police Command says movement will be restricted from 12 a.m. on Friday, February 11th, to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 12th, due to local elections in the area.

The restriction does not apply to students who have already scheduled their WAEC examinations, as well as other essential personnel.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Josephine Adeh, said people who do not fall into any of the above mentioned categories and are found wanting will face the wrath of the law.

“The restriction is to enable the Police in a concerted effort with other sister agencies to do due diligence in the discharge of their duties as ensuring a free and fair Election thereby totally paralyzing any form of threat emergence and creating a vote worthy atmosphere for voters and the electorates”, the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police FCT Command, CP Babaji Sunday, advised residents to turn out to exercise their voting rights without fear of harassment or molestation.

He reminded stakeholders to be mindful of the peace accord which they signed on Saturday, and to ensure that their acts and inactions are guided by established parameters.

The following police emergency lines were set up for the election: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.
