NBTE Advocates Increased Funding Of Research Development In Polytechnics

National Board for Technical Education NBTE has called for the allocation of more fund to Polytechnics in the area of Research and Innovation for the development of the country.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Professor Idris M. Bugaje made the call at the inauguration of NBTE Research, Development and Innovation Exhibition Hall in Kaduna.

Professor Bugaje described inadequate funding as a major factor limiting innovations and research development in those institutions.

He stressed the need for government to value the contribution of Polytechnics in Research and Innovation for better performance.

Bugaje pointed out a lot of University research ended in journals while Polytechnics which are practically oriented had developed relevant technologies that are critical to the national economy.

The Executive Secretary noted that, the exhibition would be open throughout the year to pave ways for Industries and other stakeholders to visit NBTE office with a view to witness the Innovations of the Polytechnics for partnership.

He assured that, with the support of stakeholder, the innovations would be produced In large quantity for commercialisation.

During the event, Professor M.S Haruna presented a paper on the Role of Polytechnics Research, Development and Innovation in Socio Economic Development in Nigeria.

Some research works were displayed at the exhibition hall to be developed and commercialised which include wind powered water pump, avian micro egg incubator, 3D printer, rice husk, gasifier stove and electronic scooter, among others and were brought from selected polytechnics across Nigeria.
