Bring An End To GBV, Others – FIDA

International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA),Kano chapter has charged the state government to intensify more efforts towards mitigating violence against women and children.

The chairperson of FIDA Kano, Barrister Bilkisu Ibrahim Sulaiman, made the call during a walk to stop violence against women and children,organized by FIDA in collaboration with NAWOJ and other development partners.

According to her, the walk was organized to demonstrate concern over rising cases of child abuse in the society.

Barrister Bilkisu, urged the state government to expedite action on the speedy passage and signing of the child right acts into law.

The chairperson commended Kano state government for its hard work and determination in eradicating street begging, provision of free and compulsory education among others.

Also speaking,the chairperson of Nigeria Association of women journalists (NAWOJ) Kano,Comrade Bilkisu Ado Zango reaffirmed the associations readiness in advocating for the protection of children and women rights.

She explained that,religious and traditional leaders,parents and the general public have a vital role to play in bringing perpetrators to book.

While receiving the delegation on behalf of the governor,Chief Security officer government house Kano,Mu’awuyya Muhammad said the government would do everything possible to protect women and children.

He promised to deliver FIDA’S letter to the governor for proper action.

The walk tagged: stop violence against women and children,witnessed large turn out of lawyers, journalists,civil society organizations,faith based groups and the general public.
