Two Confirmed Dead In Kano Boat Mishap

A boat mishap has claimed two lives at Zangon Durgu village, Rimin Gado local government area of Kano state.

The public relations officer of the Kano state fire service Saminu Yusif Abdullahi confirmed the sad incident to Radio Nigeria in Kano.

Narrating the incident, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi said the agency received a distress call at 11:50 am from Barrister Dahiru.

He explained that, a rescue team was quickly mobilized to the scene, where a boat conveying four people from Zangon Durgu to Kanya village capsized.

The public relations officer pointed out that, 35 year old Sani Shitu and Jabir Sani were rescued alive, while Sha’aban Bala and Rabi’u Bashari were confirmed dead by health officials.

Saminu Yusif Abdullahi explained that the bodies have been handed over to the vice chairman of Rimin Gado local government area, Shafi’u Abdullahi Gulu.

Radio Nigeria recalls that in December 2021, a boat conveying passengers mostly students from Badau to Bagwai town capsized leading to the death of over 40 people.

The great tragedy led to the ban of canoes in the area by Kano state government, as a similar accident had happened on the same axis 13 years ago, leading to the death of many people.
