NEDC Donates Power Plant, 10,000 Liters Of Diesel To Teaching Hospital

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Farouq says the ministry will continue to strengthen government institutions to provide effective services to victims of insurgency. 

Hajiya Sadiya Farouq stated this while handing over 500 kva generating set and 10,000 liters of diesel to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. 

Represented by Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs to the Minister, Group Captain Sadeeq Shehu (rtd), Hajiya Sadiya explained that the power generator donated was in fulfilment of her earlier pledge to the hospital during the inauguration of the Burns Center few months ago.

“When we were here few months ago to hand over the Burns Center and the Minister heard the need for a power plant to compliment this very big and humanitarian project, she immediately accepted the idea of the MD NEDC that the equipment should be handed over” The Minister said.

Managing Director North East Development Commission NEDC Alhaji Mohammed Akali said the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs acknowledged the services being rendered by the Teaching Hospital to vulnerable people in the region. 

“Our visit today is very simple, just to fulfil the promise made by the Minister, I called it promise made, promise kept and promise delivered” MD NEDC remarked. 

Chief Medical Director University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital Professor Ahmed Ahidjo commended the North East Development Commission for coming to the rescue of the Hospital particularly during the power outage experienced in Maiduguri for almost one year.

Professor Ahidjo also acknowledged the support provided by the Commission during Covid-19 pandemic, appealing for more intervention from the ministry to enable the hospital render more effective services.
