Governor Masari Declares Support For Power Shift

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has expressed his support to calls for power shift to the Southern part of the country to consolidate national unity.

Masari made his position known at a press conference held at the Government House in Katsina

“We should see politics as a way and means of producing leadership under a democratic dispensation.

“Our politics is still very young, even from independence to date, you are talking of 60 years, which is important even in the life of an individual, but in the life of a nation, it should be considered as work in progress.

“If you decide to elect a leader from any part of this country, have you violated the constitution?

“I still believe that, in my personal opinion as Aminu Bello Masari, as a principle, not as a law, until such a time when we have a stable polity, the rotation or shifting of power from time to time will help to consolidate our federation.

“This is my personal opinion, so my position remains the same, but I do believe as a person in power shift”, the Governor said.

He urged Nigerians to always act in ways that promote national unity particularly on issues that pertain to politics and governance.

Masari said he was of the conviction that power shift in the next general elections will go a long way in solidifying the nation’s unity and doing away with most of the issues that heat up the polity during election periods.

On local government council elections in the state, the Governor said elections would be conducted in the first quarter of the year 2022.

He noted that all necessary logistics, mechanisms and other materials needed for he elections were on ground to ensure a hitch free Local Government elections in the state.
