Borno State Resettles 700,000 IDPs

Borno state government has resettled about seven hundred thousand internally displaced persons IDPs back to communities. 

Director General State Emergency Management Agency SEMA Hajiya Yabawa Kolo made this known at a media briefing in Maiduguri. 

Yabawa Kolo said the resettled IDPs are from six official camps of Bakasi, MOGOLIS, NYSC, Farm Centre, Muna Dayalti and Haruna Alana.

She explained that IDPs at Teachers Village and Staduim camps would soon be returned to their ancestral homes after all the protocols have been concluded. 

The Director General reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to close down all the twenty eight official camps in Maiduguri by 31st of this month.

According  to her, the return process is being carried out in accordance with International conventions and protocols, that is voluntary and in a dignified manner. 

Hajiya Yabawa Kolo remarked that Agency has supported over one hundred children orphaned by the insurgency to access education. 

She promised to consolidate on return of IDPs in the year 2022 and also embarked on aggressive stabilization programmes to the IDPs self reliant.
