Karaye LG Targets Over 50,000 Children For Immunization

The primary healthcare coordinator of Karaye local government area, Malam Lawan Yahaya says about 51,611 children were targeted for December round of immunization plus days.

Malam Lawan Yahaya stated this while briefing journalists against polio, JAP who visited the area to monitor the conduct of the exercise.

He explained that, the December immunization plus days was successful as 37,403 children representing 72% were immunized as of day 2.

The coordinator commended traditional leaders, religious leaders,parents and other relevant stakeholders for their support and cooperation which yielded positive results.

Some of the parents who spoke to journalists against polio on the condition of anonymity expressed satisfaction with the dedication and friendly attitudes of the health officials, who went round to administer the vaccine.

Karaye local government area consists of ten wards, namely Magajin Gari, Magaji Hayi, kwanyawa, Kurugu, Daura others are Turawa, Kafin Dabga, Yammedi, Yola, and Tudun Kaya, with over 51,000 under 5 children eligible to receive the poliomyelitis vaccine.

Reports indicate that, that there was a large turnout of children to receive the immunization especially on the first day where a rally was organized to create awareness on the dangers of the deadly virus on young children.

Health officials were seen giving out sweets, milk and toys to young children after receiving the drop to encourage and motivate both the parents and children.
