FG Trains Bakers, others on Processing of OFSP Puree in Kano

The Federal Ministry of of Agriculture and Rural Development has Reaffirmed it’s determination in training bakers and caterers modalities of inclusion of Orange Fleshed Sweet Potato (OFSP) puree, which boost immune system and combat Vitamin A deficiency among consumers.

A Director in the ministry Hajiya Karima Babangida, stated this in during a one-day workshop, organised for bakers, women and youths in agriculture, in the state.

The project was tagged: “Supporting the adoption and utilisation of of vitamin A rich sweet potato in Nigeria”.

Represented by Mr Abdulkarim Durosinlorun, said the training was targeted at attaining the country’s goal on food security and nutrition, stressing that potato has been proven to be suitable for consumption in various forms.

“Orange Fleshed Sweet Potato needed to be brought to the awareness of bakers and caterers for making confectionaries like breads, chin-chin, cakes, goughnuts, sweetners and juice, among others,”

Hajiya Karima Babangida noted that the training would also assist in creating jobs for youths and women in the country.

She maintained that OFSP would further assist in reducing the cost of production by bakers and other users of flour.

Babangida Added that 60 participants would benefit from the training in Kano State.

In his remarks, the State Coordinator, federal Ministry of Agriculture Kano State, Dr Babagana Yamani, said the training would make the stakeholders to become champions in value addition and food products development.

Earlier the National President, Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Alhaji Mansur Umar, commended Aplauded federal Governments effort for Organizing the workshop.

The training was attended by Bakers , women,youths and other stakeholders.
