Sports Can Be A Tool For Fostering Peace – Theatre Commander

The Theatre Commander Operation Hadin Kai Major General Christopher Musa has described sports as a unifying factor and platform for fostering peace in society. 

Major General Musa stated this during the closing ceremony of “Barrack Youths Tournament 2021” at BU Umar Sports Complex Maimalari cantonment Maiduguri. 

The tournament which commenced on Tuesday, 23 November, had 18 teams, with six teams each that competed in the various events which includes football, volleyball, and basket Ball.

In his closing remarks, the Theatre Commander expressed satisfaction with the performances, show of strength, and sportsmanship of all the participants as well as the coaches and officials.

He noted that the games will create an avenue for unification and building the future generations of the military barracks.

General Musa added that the games will be used to select good sportsmen and women that will represent the barracks community in future sporting activities in the state.  

“I see future champions in you, your performances are highly commendable and this has truly shown that we can generate a team for the nation,” he remarked.

The Acting Assistant Director Army Physical Training, Major Adebayo Oloruntoba stated that the game was free and fair, with participants, coaches, and officials exhibiting the spirit of sportsmanship. 

In the football category El-Kanemi Junior Warriors defeated Desert Warriors to emerge, winner, the Basketball event, 7 Division team clinched the first position, while in the Volley Ball event, 333 Artillery Team emerged overall winner.

Highlights of the grand finale were the presentation of trophies and awards to individuals for outstanding performance.

Present at the grand finale were the Deputy Theatre Commander Major General Ibrahim Jallo, the Acting General Officer  Commanding 7 Division Nigerian Army, and Commander Sector 1 Brigadier General Abdul Wahab Eyitayo and other senior officers from the Theatre and the Division.
