Jigawa Inaugurates Committee on Control of Drug Abuse

Jigawa state government has inaugurated a 31 member newly reconstituted committee on control of drug abuse in the state.

Inaugurating the committee, the Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir Fanini said the state government is deeply concerned with the behavior of some youth in taking intoxicated substances.

He said the state government will do all that is possible to address the menace of drug abuse in the state and to save the future generation from menace.

Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir Fanini explained that government has decided to reappoint Colonel Muhammad Alhassan (rtd) as Chairman and some members of the committee because of the wonderful achievements they recorded in their previous assignment which resulted for the establishment of the rehabilitation centre on control of drug abuse in the state.

He said the establishment of the rehabilitation centre has drastically reduced the menace of drug abuse in the state and helps many youth regain control over their life and reintegrated into society.

According to him, part of the terms and reference of the committee is to make sure that the state government gives all the maximum support and cooperation to NDLEA who have the mandate for the control of drug abuse in the state.

Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir Fanini urged the committee members to work hard and justify the confidence bestowed on them, adding that their appointments were base on merit, commitment and wealth of experience.

Responding, the Chairman of the Committee who is also the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Colonel Muhammad Alhassan (rtd) assured that they will do all what is possible to justify the confidence bestowed on them.
