Inferno Razes Over 40 Shops In Kano Market

No fewer than 40 shops were completely razed to ashes due to fire outbreak at Layin Yan Littafa’i, Kurmi market Kano.

The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Saleh Jili confirmed the incident to Radio Nigeria’s correspondent in Kano.

According to him, the fire which occured at about 2:pm had turned many book shops to ashes.

Dr. Saleh Jili pointed out that, no life was lost during the inferno which many claimed occurred due to electric fault.

The Executive Secretary noted that, the State Emergency Management Agency had visited the market to condole with those affected and make an assessment of damages for a comprehensive report to the government for possible action.

“They are not the same with those who have fire outbreaks in their homes where we take relief materials, this kind of disaster needs to be financially assisted especially during this fianancial crisis” He explained.

He said preparations were in top gear for the commencement of a disaster management conference with relevant stakeholders on fire prevention measures.

Dr. Saleh Jili however reiterated the state government’s readiness to do everything possible to protect the lives and properties of it’s citizen’s.

He said the conference aimed at sensitizing the public on ways of preventing fire disaster would involve all the stakeholders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, CSOs and community based organizations responsible for fire campaign, so that the information can go round.

Dr. Saleh Jili, urged the general public to maintain safety at all times by using fire and electric appliances with care to avoid fire outbreak especially during harmattan season.
